Renegade - Review

Renegade ( Ripper #2) by Amy Carol Reeves

Blurb
Brimming with romance and danger, the suspenseful Ripper series continues

The Conclave—a secret group with twisted ideals and freakish practices—has been wiped out, thanks to Arabella Sharp. Now there’s a new malevolence afoot. Fishermen are getting killed, their partially devoured bodies washing up on the shores of Scotland. Is the Ripper responsible? Or have the Conclave’s sinister experiments left behind something more monstrous? Abbie fears the worst when her beloved Dr. William Siddal vanishes. To save the man she loves, Abbie must comply with the Ripper’s dreadful orders—and put her own life in grave danger.

My Review
Arabella Sharp has gotten rid of The Conclave and thought that would be the end of those things. She thought her life would get back to normal or as normal as it could. However bodies begin to show up that have the mark of the Ripper and bodies of fisherman begin to wash up along with tales of a strange creature. Arabella is also struggling to decide between William and Simon. Will things ever become sane for her again.

Arabella is a different character. She has visions and works as a nurse and she just knows more trouble is to come. She won't back down from what she believes and will do whatever she can to solve a mystery. Often she rushes into things without thinking. Simon is a great guy even if he is quiet. You get to see why he is so quiet and puts a wall up between people. I really liked him. William I did not care for one bit. He seemed like a jerk who for the most part only cared for his self. A few times I think he is treated unfairly by Arabella but for the most part I did not care for him. Seraphina is a character I really liked a lot. I think besides Simon she is my favorite. Yes she does awful things but she has a bad past. You get to see different sides of her.

I have not read the first book in thus series and was just a little confused at first. However I do believe this book can be read as it's own story as the only thing I feel I missed to do with this story is Arabella and Williams relationship. What I didn't like about this story is bad to say is the main character Arabella. She got on my nerves a lot. At times I wanted to smack her and say look in front of you at what is there. I was glad she and William had problems but I think at times she needed to rethink why she was giving him such a hard time. I guess you can say the love situation is the reason I didn't love it. The plot with the murders, bodies and creatures I loved. Any time an author write a creature that is evil but you still feel for it is awesome for me. I loved the action and some of the characters. I would love to see more of some of them and yes I would like to know if Arabella ever wises up.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

The Eternity Cure - Review

The Eternity Cure ( The Blood of Eden #2)
by Julie Kagawa
Blurb
Allison Sekemoto has vowed to rescue her creator, Kanin, who is being held hostage and tortured by the psychotic vampire Sarren. The call of blood leads her back to the beginning—New Covington and the Fringe, and a vampire prince who wants her dead yet may become her wary ally.

Even as Allie faces shocking revelations and heartbreak like she’s never known, a new strain of the Red Lung virus that decimated humanity is rising to threaten human and vampire alike.

My Review
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review. Allie has left Zeke in Eden and is now hunting for her vampire sire Kanin. She can feel he needs her and she is tracking him through the blood bond. When they bond splits in two directions the path she choices leads to Jackal her blood brother. Even though they both wish to kill each other they team up to find Kanin. Their path leads them back to New Covington and the Fringe where it all started for Allie. Once there they see a new strain of the Red Lung virus has emerged and it threatens not only the humans but vampires as well. Allie is faced with people from her past some that want to help her and some that wish her dead. She will have to make many hard decisions and the future may be in her hands.

Allie is awesome as always. She has got tougher as she looks for Kanin but she does know her heart is back in Eden with Zeke. She does everything she can in this book to help her friends and everyone to survive. Several times she is face with betrayal in this book and she pushes through that to do what has to be done. You get to see just how loyal she can be and how much pain she can take. I love how much she grows in this book. Jackal I never liked and in this book I have mixed feelings about him. I don't trust him much. In this book Kanin is weaker but he has been tortured and endured countless other things. I really like Kanin and liked getting to know why he did some of the things he did. Zeke has my heart in this book. He goes beyond what anyone could ask for from him. He doesn't back down from anything and shows how much he cares for Allie.

So,so hard to write without spoilers. I loved the first book and I love this one as well. I love the whole world the author has create in these books. In this book we get to see a little more about things that happened in the past. I love how they are added in. The characters each grow in this book as more is known about some of them. My feelings for several characters changed quite a bit after I finished this book. There is plenty of action as Allie has to fight all kinds of people and vampires. It seems everyone who comes across her has a grudge for some reason. Betrayal is a big point in this book as you really never know who to trust and who is going to stab you in the back. It will for sure keep you turning the pages as you just have to see what will happen next. The ending in a way I saw coming but it only makes me want the next one more. Love dystopian books, YA vampire books or just a great read pick this series up.

Immortalis Series Promo & Giveaway

Hey everyone! To help Katie Salidas to get the word out about the release of book 6 in her Immortalis series we are have a promo post. It is a great series. Be sure to check out the giveaway at the bottom! Now here are the books in the series.

Book 1: Immortalis Carpe Noctem
Newbie vampire Alyssa never asked for this life, but now it's all she has. Rescued from death by Lysander, the aloof and sexy leader of the Peregrinus vampire clan, she's barely cut her teeth before she becomes a target. Kallisto, an ancient and vindictive vampire queen - and Lysander's old mate - wants nothing less than final death for her former lover and his new toy. She's not above letting the Acta Sanctorum, and its greatest vampire hunter, Santino, know exactly where the clan can be found. With no time to mourn her old life, Alyssa's survival depends on her new family. She will have to stand alongside Lysander and fight against two enemies who will stop at nothing to destroy them.

Book 2: Hunters & Prey
Rule number one: humans and vampires don't co-exist. One is the hunter and one is the prey. Simple, right? Not for newly-turned vampire Alyssa. A surprise confrontation with Santino Vitale, the Acta Sanctorum's most fearsome hunter, sends her fleeing back to the world she once knew, and Fallon, the human friend she's missed more than anything. Now she has some explaining to do. However, that will have to wait. With the Acta Sanctorum hot on their heels, staying alive is more important than educating a human on the finer points of bloodlust.

Book 3: Pandora's Box
After a few months as a vampire, Alyssa thought she'd learned all she needed to know about the supernatural world. But her confidence is shattered by the delivery of a mysterious package - a Pandora's Box. Seemingly innocuous, the box is in reality an ancient prison, generated by a magic more powerful than anyone in her clan has ever known. But what manner of evil could need such force to contain it? When the box is opened, the sinister creature within is released, and only supernatural blood will satiate its thirst. The clan soon learns how it feels when the hunter becomes the hunted.

Book 4: Soulstone
It's a desperate time for rookie vampire Alyssa, and her sanity is hanging by a slender thread. Her clan is still reeling from the monumental battle with Aniketos; a battle that claimed the body of Lysander, her sire and lover, and trapped his spirit in a mysterious crystal. A Soulstone. Unfortunately, no amount of magic has been able to release Lysander's spirit, and the stone is starting to fade. Weeks of effort have proved futile. Her clan, the Peregrinus, have all but given up hope. Only Alyssa still believes her lover can be released. In despair, Alyssa begs the help of the local witch coven, and unwittingly exposes the supernaturals of Boston to unwanted attention from the Acta Sanctorum. The Saints converge on the city and begin their cleansing crusade to rid the world of all things "Unnatural." In the middle of an all-out war, but no closer to a solution to the dying stone, Alyssa is left with an unenviable choice: save her mate, or save her clan.

Book 5: Moonlight

Good girls don't wear fur, or fight over men, and they certainly don't run around naked, howling at the moon. But then, no-one ever called Fallon a good girl. As a human unofficially mated to an Alpha werewolf, Fallon is being pressured to "become"...or be gone. Her mate Aiden, the interim leader of the Olde Town Pack, is in a position that demands he either choose a wolf mate...or leave the pack forever. No matter how hot the sex with Fallon is, he can't ignore centuries of tradition. Become a wolf or not. If only the choice were that simple. Fallon's options are further clouded by the overt presence of other females desperate to be the Alpha's mate. And when these bitches get serious, it's not just claws that come out. If Fallon wants to keep her man and take the title she'll have to exert a little dominance of her own.

Book 6: Dark Salvation

A gathering storm of violence is on the horizon. Whispered threats of the Acta Sanctorum's return have the supernatural world abuzz. Only recently aware of the other world hidden behind our own, Kitara Vanders has barely scratched the surface of what being supernatural truly means. A special woman in her own right, she possesses unique telepathic abilities, gifts that have recently come under the scrutiny of the Acta Sanctorum, a fanatical organization whose mission is to cleanse the world of anything supernatural. Targeted, and marked for death, Kitara's only hope lies with the lethally seductive yet emotionally scarred warrior, Nicholas.

Knowing full well the atrocities the Acta Sanctorum is capable of, Nicholas is all too eager for the battle to begin. Fueled by pain and rage from the loss of his mate, he's itching for a fight, but one thing stands in his way, Kitara: a beautiful dark-haired woman with unique psychic abilities and an unusual link to the Saints. Despite his resolve to remain focused on his mission, a purely physical relationship binds them together in a way neither of them expected. And when her life hangs in the balance, Nicholas finds his own is teetering on the edge too.

Cryptid Tales Blog Tour- Review & Giveaway

Hey everyone! We have a stop on the Cryptid Tales Tour. We have a review of one of the books in this omnibus, and a giveaway for you all.

Cryptid Tales Blurb
The complete bestselling series with over 35,000 readers!

You think seeing ghosts is weird? Tell me something I don't know.

My childhood best friend Jeremy happens to be a ghost.

My life is a puzzle, and the biggest piece missing has been my dad. Since his disappearance when I was six it's been tough, but Jeremy has been by my side through it all.

But now Jeremy has gone missing too and I feel like I'm never going to get all the answers I've been looking for.

Fate intervenes when Hugh, a real live college beefcake, starts taking an interest in me. He divulges that he also shares my little "gift" of seeing the dead and I know I'm finally getting closer to finding all the pieces.

However, the more the puzzle is completed, the more questions I have.

Senior year is hard enough as it is, but clearly I like a challenge.

My Review of Reveal
Shay's dad disappeared years ago. She has had a hard time because her mom doesn't want to talk about him and her little brother doesn't remember him. She also has a secret she keeps hidden from everyone including her family and best friend. She can see ghost and talk to them. A ghost named Jeremy was her friend when her dad left but she accidentally  sent him away not knowing he couldn't come back. Years later when she is in high school she goes to visit the college campus with her friend and notices a good looking boy she just wants to meet. She finally gets to get to know him through a chance meeting at her work. She soon learns he can see the dead to and they begin to fall for each other. Taking a trip to meet his family who knew her dad she learns she may have more powers than she knew about. She learns it just may be up to her and Hugh to save the ghost from The Darkness. They have to stay safe them selves first and Shay must figure out just what all she can do.

Shay is a great character who has been kinda lost most of her life. She is strong and in a way she becomes even stronger as the book goes along. I loved seeing her come into her own. She at times seems your typical teen and that make the book that much better. Hugh is good looking, has goals set for his self but he still loves his family. He does everything he can to fill Shay in on her heritage. He does mess up sometimes and again this makes him more real to me. I love the chemistry between the two.

I really enjoyed this book and it gives a different take on some supernatural traits I liked. You get to hear why they are the way they are. There is some action towards the end and it is written nicely and has a good surprise I didn't see coming. You really get a feel for Shay and Hugh in this book. You watch them grow close and the little mistakes they make. Their families are wonderful as well. I especially liked reading about Hugh's tribe. If you like a YA book that is clean and fun to read pick this one up. You won't be disappointed.

GILDED DESTINY: A Vesper Novella by Nola Sarina

A woman's memory returns when she falls in love with the monster who took it from her.

Calli tattoos her skin to fill the holes in her memory, thanks to an accident that left her mind damaged and empty. But a nasty encounter with a fired employee leaves her in the arms of her unlikely savior: Nycholas, a predatory, serpentine Vesper on the run from his brutal master.

Nycholas’ clandestine world holds the secrets to mankind’s origin and survival… but he only wants one thing before his time is up: a few colorful nights with Calli, the fragile, tattooed, human woman he pursued and saved.

The more Calli learns about Nycholas, the more her own darkened memories return to her. Despite her haunted past, she loses herself to passion and desire with her immortal captor.

Now, Calli must overcome the demons of her past, or allow Nycholas to kiss her memories away and spare her the trauma of loving a doomed immortal. But each choice comes with dire consequences – some that endanger not only herself, but her family as well.

My Review
Calli works in a tattoo shop and loves what she does. She has had a rough time do to an accident leaving her memory with gaps and messed up. She is working one night when she comes in contact with someone she knows is not human. She ends up forgetting the meeting till the next night when the stranger saves her from a disgruntle ex employee. She watches in horror as the stranger shows her what he is. Then her memories begin to slowly return she realizes he is no stranger to her, and he may just hold the key to all her lost memories. Nycholas is a Vesper on the run from his master and wants to spend a few nights with Calli if she is willing. She knows she shouldn't but she goes with him and ends up having to make some hard decisions that could change her life.

Wow oh wow where do I start. First off I fell in love with this book from the start. It has a new paranormal creature that I have never read about. There may be other books with it but it is new to me and I love it. You get to hear about the past of these creatures and see just how long they have been around. They are fascinating and horrible at the same time. Nycholas is hot, deadly and seems to generally care for Callie. Callie I will say some times I wondered just what she was thinking but the more I read the more I could see why she would go with him. This book really draws you into the amazing world of the Vespers. I will say I did not expect the ending and really was shocked by it. I don't want to give spoilers but I will say I loved and hated how the book ended. I love how the author did what she did and hated it in a good way because well you just need to read it to see why lol. You won't be disappointed by this book.

Excerpt
“I startled you.” His voice was dark and smooth, and reminded me of wine. He stood a few inches taller than me in a long, worn-out brown leather coat that swung near the backs of his knees.

He kept his head down, long, blond hair spilling over his shoulders in a way that reminded me of dreadlocks, though the hair shone of cleanliness, like cords of solid gold, or yellow steel, or…

Stranger in my shop. Focus. No gold or wine.

“Um, sorry, we’re closed.” My voice rang with the high-pitched curl of panic on the ends of my words, and I thought about stooping to pick up my cash but didn’t dare take my eyes off the stranger. Something about his stillness, the unnatural bend of his head, eyes on the floor… it left me with a chill on my flesh. His broad shoulders heaved once as he blew out a sigh.

“Pity.”

I waited for a moment, glancing about. “You wanna make an appointment? I’m booked tomorrow, but sometimes we have walk-in space…” I trailed off, that damn breathy tone to my offer again. Big, broad, and seriously long hair.

I might not have a type, but if I had one, it would look something like that stranger in my shop. At least, that’s what I thought… until he raised his head and I realized this gorgeous man was not human.

My jaw dropped and my heart slammed against my ribcage, pounding my lungs down into submission… I couldn’t breathe. Holy fuck! Not good! Not good!

I sucked in a breath to scream, but a leather-gloved hand – that same, worn, brown leather over a palm so thick I could hardly see around it – clamped over my face. My scream rang more in my own chest than in the shop: a muffled squeal no one outside could have heard.

I hadn’t even seen him move before he was upon me.

Boring into my gaze were eyes of solid black, no whites behind the irises; just a glimmer of silver in the center left the impression of a pupil. His skin was bleached pale, and something black inked across his eyebrows and temples, running down the sides of his face and wrapping behind his ears.

He wore an angry snarl on his lips - pale lips in a sharply-angled jaw peeled back over pearl white teeth that glinted with an odd fluorescence, like the lights flickering above my head or the neon sign on the door. I stared at his mouth, unable to scream for the hand wrapped over my face, and stilled with horror when I realized the bright teeth nestled behind those pale lips were fangs.

Fangs. Long, pointed, and deadly.

I wanted to scream again. I wanted to bite his hand and kick him in the groin and run away, but he raised his chin and glared down at me along his nose, and took a breath to speak.

I didn’t hear his words. My heartbeat swelled in my ears, ringing with a heady cacophony, and I tried to make fists, to stay upright, anything… but my vision fell away from me, distant, tumbling down a sewer drain like a dropped coin, and everything around me vanished.

For a moment, all I felt was something smooth along my cheek - the silk of my pillowcase, perhaps. So tired. I blinked but there was nothing to see, so I closed my eyes again and let rest have me.

It felt like morning when I opened them again, and the silk was gone, replaced by unforgiving air. Cold. Was I outside? No, air conditioner. Energy surged through my fingers and toes and I wanted to sit up, but something weighed me down. I blinked a couple times and rolled my head to the side, gazing at my shoulder… a brown leather blanket draped over my exhausted bones, and memory rekindled my fight or flight response.

Worn brown leather. Stranger in my shop. I fainted!

I shot upright and gasped, and then let out a scream with every speck of air my lungs held. I tried to look around me but my vision blurred… I ran out of air and screamed again, scrambling backward, kicking off the coat and trying to get my knees under myself… stand up, Calli, dammit, stand up!

My legs obeyed, and I launched myself to my feet and stumbled forward. I slammed my hand into the sharp corner of the cash register, caught myself and heard a masculine breath rush out behind me. I didn’t need to see him to know it was him.

The stranger. The monster. I shoved away from the desk and ran on vacant feet, my heart pounding and my head buzzing angrily like I had a tattoo machine between my teeth. I swiped the back of my hand over my eyes to shed the tears from my lashes and try to clear up my vision. The street looked blacker than usual – shit, still nighttime! - and the air chilled me so bone-deep it hurt my skull.
