Review of Starters

Starters (Starters and Enders,#1)
by Lissa Price

Goodreads Blurb
Callie lost her parents when the Spore Wars wiped out everyone between the ages of twenty and sixty. She and her little brother, Tyler, go on the run, living as squatters with their friend Michael and fighting off renegades who would kill them for a cookie. Callie's only hope is Prime Destinations, a disturbing place in Beverly Hills run by a mysterious figure known as the Old Man.

He hires teens to rent their bodies to Enders—seniors who want to be young again. Callie, desperate for the money that will keep her, Tyler, and Michael alive, agrees to be a donor. But the neurochip they place in Callie's head malfunctions and she wakes up in the life of her renter, living in her mansion, driving her cars, and going out with a senator's grandson. It feels almost like a fairy tale, until Callie discovers that her renter intends to do more than party—and that Prime Destinations' plans are more evil than Callie could ever have imagined. . .

My Review
I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review. Callie is left alone to take care of her little brother Tyler after the Spore Wars have killed all the middle age people on Earth. All that is left are the young kids (Starters) and the elderly (Enders). In order to help feed and take care of Tyler and a friend Michael she agrees to rent her body to an Elder. She goes into a deep sleep while and Elder goes into her body to relive their youth. It is just supposed to be routine but something happens and Callie finds out there is a dark side to loaning her body out. She may be in grave danger along with all Starters.

I really enjoyed this book. In a world where all the young must hide or have a protector Callie does everything she can to take care of her brother. She is a strong character that you get to see her strength right away. She fights to protect what is dear to her even when it puts her in Danger. Michael helps take of Tyler while Callie loans her body out and tries to help as much as he can. This is a twisted world you will find yourself in as you read this book. Some of the Elders seem ok but for the most part they are creepy and don't care what happens to the bodies they are loaned. It's like a game to them to do all they can in the Starter bodies while their own body is safe. It makes you think if you would loan your own body out if you were in this situation or if your were and Elder would you rent a body? In a way I kind of seen the surprise at the end. I just got a feeling halfway into the book and was glad to see I guessed correctly. I was still shocked to see the bad guy go through such lengths to get what he wanted. If you like a futuristic book with some twist and shocks be sure to pick this up. I look forward to the next book in this series.
