Midnight City - Review

Midnight City ( Conquered Earth #1) by J. Barton Mitchell

Book Blurb
In a post-apocalyptic world controlled by alien invaders, two teens and a young girl with mysterious powers embark on a dangerous journey. What they find will change everything...

Earth has been conquered. An extraterrestrial race known as The Assembly has abducted the adult population, leaving the planet’s youth to fend for themselves. In this treacherous landscape, Holt, a bounty hunter, is transporting his prisoner Mira when they discover Zoey, a young girl with powerful abilities who could be the key to stopping The Assembly. As they make their way to the cavernous metropolis of Midnight City, the trio must contend with freedom fighters, mutants, otherworldly artifacts, pirates, feuding alien armies, and perhaps most perilous of all: Holt and Mira’s growing attraction to each other.

My Review
I received this book from NetGalley for an Honest review. An alien race has took over the planet infecting Adults with something called the Tone. It makes adults become mindless and they do whatever the aliens wish which seems to be taking them all away. this leaves the kids behind alone to survive by themselves. Holt is a boy who is immune to the Tone and is a bounty hunter. He tracks down kids and brings them in to the new rulers of the cities. He manages to catch Mira someone nobody else has been able to catch. on the way to taking her in while hiding from the aliens they come across Zoey. She is a little girl and it seems the aliens are sending everyone after her. She is very special even if she doesn't know why. Traveling together they all learn to help each other all the while hiding from aliens, mutant people, crazy people everywhere and for Holt and Mira they must fight their feelings for each other.

Holt is a fantastic character that you really get to understand and see what makes him tick. The author doesn't just come out and say this is how he is. You find out more and more as you read this book about his character till you really see him. Mira is awesome in that she is so tough and never gives up. Where many books now a days the girl stands around waiting for some guy to save them this is refreshing. She is takes everything that is thrown at her and still stands tall. Zoey is so adorable I want to take her somewhere safe. She just gets into your heart and still is mysterious you keep wondering what exactly happened to her, how did she get a way and what is her secrets. I love the scenes with her and The Max.

This is a futuristic book with a sci fi twist. I really enjoyed this book as the plot is different and you keep on your toes as these kids fight their way away from everything from mutants, aliens, crazy point driven kids and even each other. The pages turn very easily reading this book as each one brings you something new to digest. The author does an amazing job building the story up and keeping it going. It also amazes me how the kids who are ruling place act some of them are just as horrifying as he aliens. the one reason it gets 4 instead of 5 is because you are left wanting to know so much more that is left unanswered. Like why do the aliens take the adults, why are they here, what makes the artifacts really work and so many more questions. I know that this is just the first book but I want to know so much more. Be sure to pick this up if you like futuristic books that you don't want to put down. I will be looking for the next book in this series to see what happens next.
4 out of 5 Bats~Pam
