Team Human Review

Team Human by Justine Larbalestier & Sarah Rees Brennan

Goodreads Blurb
Just because Mel lives in New Whitby, a city founded by vampires, doesn't mean she knows any of the blood-drinking undead personally. They stay in their part of town; she says in hers. Until the day a vampire shows up at her high school. Worse yet, her best friend, Cathy, seems to be falling in love with him. It's up to Mel to save Cathy from a mistake she might regret for all eternity

On top of trying to help Cathy (whether she wants it or not), Mel is investigating a mysterious disappearance for another friend and discovering the attractions of a certain vampire wannabe. Combine all this with a cranky vampire cop, a number of unlikely romantic entanglements, and the occasional zombie, and soon Mel is hip-deep in an adventure that is equal parts hilarious and touching.

Acclaimed authors Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Rees Brennan team up to create a witty and poignant story of cool vampires, warm friendships, and the changes that test the bonds of love.

My Review
Mel lives in New Whitley a town that has a vampire section and a human section. She doesn't care for the vampires and wants nothing to do with them. When Francis decides he wants to go to school she is not very happy to have to be around a vampire every day. With everyone falling in love with him including her best friend Cathy she is growing suspicious of him. She thinks there is more going on than he says.

Let me start off by saying a little something about these characters. They are all great! Mel is headstrong and thinks she knows what is best for all her friends. She is constantly trying to talk sense into Cathy and tell her she can't love Francis because he is a dead guy. Cathy is such a sweetheart she makes you think of every ones kid sister. Francis is a vampire that doesn't care to much for modern things and is hiding a secret. Anna is the principles daughter and has her own tragedy to over come that makes her not like vampires. Then we have Kit. Kit is a human who was raised by vampires and doesn't know a lot about humans. He tries to change Mel's mind on how vampires really are.

This was a quick read for me. I read it in a day and loved it. It is very funny at times. Mel loves to try and make Francis mad. This is in it's own way different from the other YA vampire books. The lead girl doesn't love vampires and wants nothing to do with them. Kit truly brings a great spin on the story as he tries to show Mel how vampires can be a family. She tries to show him how humans are. There is the mystery that is going on and I was surprised at the ending. I didn't see it coming. You also get told what happens if you are turned and it goes bad. You are pretty much a zombie. If you want a funny, light vampire read pick this up. It was really enjoyable and the characters linger with you long afterwords.

5 out of 5 Bats~Pam
