Warm Bodies Review

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion

Goodreads Blurb
R is a young man with an existential crisis--he is a zombie. He shuffles through an America destroyed by war, social collapse, and the mindless hunger of his undead comrades, but he craves something more than blood and brains. He can speak just a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. He has no memories, noidentity, and no pulse, but he has dreams.

After experiencing a teenage boy's memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and stragely sweet relationship with the victim's human girlfriend. Julie is a blast of color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that surrounds R. His decision to protect her will transform not only R, but his fellow Dead, and perhaps their whole lifeless world.

Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies is about being alive, being dead, and the blurry line in between.

My Review
R. is a zombie but not your typical one. He likes to listen to music, has some speech left and wants to change what he is. He can't remember his name or how he became a zombie he just knows this isn't the life he was meant to have. He then meets Julie and after eating her boyfriend starts becoming more human. He hides her from the zombies. Soon they might have to make a run for it.

O.K. anyone who knows me knows I love zombie books. I read everyone I can. This one ranks right up there at the top for me. I mean come on it is told from the zombie's point of view. We get to see through R. why they eat humans and what happens to them after they do. He falls in love with a human girl Julie and tries to hide the fact that he was the one who killed her boyfriend Perry. Don't think oohh they get together and he is a dead man. It's not like that he tries his best to take care of her and to change his ways. She just wants to get back home to where the rest of the people alive are and thinks of him as a friend. Slowly R. begins to change and seems he is getting more alive than dead. Some of the zombies don't like that even if some agree with him you can see the lines being divided. If you like zombie books this one is a great one. Different from others because we get to see inside the zombie. At times you may even find yourself laughing out loud especially to read about the zombie honeymoons.

5 out of 5 Bats~Pam

  1. I LOVED this book! It was my 1st ever zombie book and I could not help but root for R the whole time. I wanted something good to happen for him... even if he was a zombie and ate brains lol
